  SOCIOECONOMIC SITUATION
Economically, Alzira presents an equilibrium between the three productive factors. The agriculture was until recently the most important activity where we should distinguish the oranges cultivate, from which we have knowledge as an agrocommercial factor in the 16th century. At the end of the 18th century and beginnings of the 19th century, it started to be an intensive cultivate, and others varieties such as the "navel", the "sanguina", the "verna", etc started to appear together to the primitive plantations. In Alzira there are 98.580 acres dedicated to the citric cultivate. This territory is the biggest in the country, and that is why, Alzira is known as "the cradle of the oranges". Apart from the citric, we also have the traditional orchard cultivates. The industry, was spectacularly developed from the 60's as a consequence of the agrarian crisis and it has important factories dedicated to the bird-rearing, ice-creams, paper, cartoon, construction, dyeing, furniture, impression, drinks productions, as well as a subsidiary sector of agricultural production. Finally, the service sector is consequence of the other two, and its parallel development is present in the quantity of banking offices, agencies, concessionaires, civil servants, commences, etc.
